El Poaig

Millennia-old olive trees

In light of the plundering and devastation of the landscape endured by these lands with the felling of millennia-old olive trees, Manuel Arnau and Joaquim Solano decided to put all their efforts into creating El Poaig. Their main focus is to place value on the output of these natural monuments. The value of a millennia-old olive tree is immeasurable and must be preserved within its environment.

El Poaig is the name for the piece of land where Grandma Carmen (Joaquim's grandmother) would pick olives to turn them into delicious oil in the autumn.

El Poaig is the name for the piece of land where Grandma Carmen (Joaquim's grandmother) would pick olives to turn them into delicious oil in the autumn.

After studying, conversing, comparing and analysing, Manuel and Joaquim created El Poaig, the olive oil from millennia-old olive trees produced with immense love for these lands.
Their main concept was "we cherish olive trees".

Las Fargas

El Poaig millennia-old olive tree

The farga is a variety of olive tree which is characterized by its monumental size and its twisted trunk, which is the result of its battle against the climate. This factor, the climate (sometimes dry and cold), has shaped these trees, which have withstood even the days with production in full swing. To determine their age, the circumference of their trunk is measured at a height of 1.5 metres. This circumference must measure between 4 and 15 metres to certify that the olive tree is thousands of years old. Its strength and capacity to absorb all its nutrients from the calcareous soil gives these oils an exceptional character. Trees aged between 1000-3000 years old, which at El Poaig we look after like treasure. These millenia-old Fargas are trees protected by Valencia's regional laws on arboreal heritage thanks to the efforts of the people of El Maestrat.

El Maestrat

El Maestrat

A landscape of rolling hills outlined by majestic millennia-old olive trees, which have kept watch over the lands of El Maestrat for over 3000 years. First the Phoenicians. Then the Roman legions travelling along the Via Augusta. The land of popes which saw the end of the Western Schism. Pine and holm oak forests partner our olive trees. Purple hillsides of rosemary and lavender. Hands wrought over time picking the precious olives with care. Skin crafted by the sun and wind which has shaped the millennia-old olive trees. Olive trees and people who have been at one with the land for millennia. The valley of the millennia-old olive trees.

The region of El Maestrat has the "highest number of millenary olive trees in the world"

El Poaig is history, health, tradition, respect, indulgence and love for the land of the millennia-old Farga trees and its people.
